CEO Telegram Dikabarkan Ditangkap di Prancis

JELAJAHNEWS.ID – Pendiri sekaligus CEO aplikasi chat Telegram, Pavel Durov, dikabarkan ditangkap di bandara Bourget, Prancis, Sabtu (24/8) malam waktu setempat.

Dilansir dari Reuters, penangkapan itu terungkap dalam pemberitaan media Prancis TF1 TV dan BFM TV, mengutip sumber yang tidak disebutkan namanya.

Diketahui, Telegram, merupakan aplikasi yang sangat berpengaruh di Rusia, Ukraina, dan negara-negara bekas Uni Soviet, bahkan menduduki peringkat sebagai salah satu platform media sosial utama lainnya.

Berbasis di Dubai, Telegram didirikan oleh Durov, miliarder kelahiran Rusia. Ia meninggalkan Rusia pada 2014 usai menolak untuk mematuhi tuntutan pemerintah untuk menutup komunitas oposisi di platform media sosial VK miliknya, yang ia jual.

Menurut TF1, Durov, yang bepergian dengan jet pribadinya, telah menjadi sasaran surat perintah penangkapan di Prancis sebagai bagian dari penyelidikan awal polisi.

TF1 dan BFM sama-sama mengatakan bahwa penyelidikan difokuskan pada kurangnya moderator (alias sensor) di Telegram, dan bahwa polisi menganggap bahwa situasi ini memungkinkan aktivitas kriminal terus berlanjut tanpa hambatan di aplikasi pengiriman pesan tersebut.

Pihak Telegram diketahui belum menanggapi permintaan komentar dari Reuters.

Sementara, Kementerian Dalam Negeri dan polisi Prancis tidak memberikan tanggapan soal kabar ini.

Usai Rusia melancarkan invasi ke Ukraina pada tahun 2022, Telegram menjadi sumber utama konten yang tidak difilter, dan terkadang vulgar dan menyesatkan, dari kedua belah pihak tentang perang dan politik seputar konflik tersebut.

Bahkan, aplikasi tersebut telah menjadi sarana komunikasi pilihan bagi Presiden Ukraina Volodymyr Zelenskiy dan para pejabatnya. Kremlin dan pemerintah Rusia juga menggunakannya untuk menyebarkan berita mereka.(jn/**)
